SteinAudio Custom DIY Audio Cabinets

I have built many speakers over the last few years,
so when I took on the Apex ll kit  From Raw
Acoustics, I wasn't too worried that I could build
them. Although, I am very busy, and soon realized
that I had no time to do all the cuts for the speakers,
as they are fairly complicated.  So off I went surfing
the web, and as luck would have it, I ran across
Scott Stein Audio, and saw that he not only made
speaker cabinets, but Flat packs as well. This was
perfect for me as I love to build the speakers, but
have no room to do it, and don't have a table saw
handy.  I emailed Scott, and after looking at the
design I sent him, he assured me he could cut the
parts, and send them to me.  A couple of weeks
later I received the extremely well packed speaker
flat packs, and I could not have been happier with
the results!
I decided to paint them a translucent kind of black
with some gold color marbling to give it a
translucent look. I then put about 5 coats of clear,
sanding in between coats, to give the speakers a
very smooth mat finish. I think they came out
incredible looking! Very wife friendly!  Al over at Raw
really has something going with this fine design,
the sound is nothing short of astonishing. Parts
quality is first rate, I got the platinum package with
the sonicap platinum caps,  bypass caps, and the
Raw ice dampening compound for the walls.
Drivers are the incredible Adire Audio extremis 6.8
mid bass,  the CSS wr125r, and finally the Aurum
Cantus ribbon for upper frequency shimmer, and
sparkle. These speakers will rock with the best of
them, or make the hair stand up on your neck with
some soulful blues, jazz, or R&B. I am still amazed
at what is possible within the DIY community if you
are willing to do the research, and a little hard work.

The sound these speakers produce will rival
anything I have heard at 15000 and down, and they
are incredibly well built to boot.
The many wood panels went together just like a
well made puzzle, and I had the inner structure
built, and glued in no time. As you can see from
the pictures, I installed the crossovers before I
closed them up.  This is a complicated design, but
with Scotts precision cutting, I was able to do the
final assembly no problem!  I decided to mill the
baffles myself as I was originally going to veneer
them , but decided to do something a little different
this time. If you have never done the round
countersunk speaker holes in the baffles I would
highly recommend having Scott do it!
You can buy a new pair of these fine speakers from Raw Acoustics for about 6000 or get the kit for around
2000, and then have Scott either build, or send flat packs to you, making it a fairly easy build!  If you have a
design that you want to build, and don't have the time or a limited budget, then Stein Audio is the way to
go!!  Thanks again Scott, and I hope you enjoy the pics of the speakers you help me build!!  Kind Regards,
Jon Anderson
